Instructions

  1. Divide the Cereal: Pour 5 cups of Rice Chex Apple Cinnamon cereal into a medium bowl, then pour the remaining 5 cups into a second medium bowl. Set both bowls aside for preparation.
  2. Prepare Dry Mixes: Take two Ziplock storage bags. In the first bag, combine 1/2 cup vanilla cake mix, 1 cup granola, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. In the second bag, combine the remaining 1/2 cup vanilla cake mix, 1 cup granola, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Seal and set aside.
  3. Melt Candy Coatings: In two separate microwavable bowls, melt 1 cup green candy melts with 1 teaspoon shortening and 1 cup lime green candy melts with 1 teaspoon shortening. Stir until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Coat Cereal with Candy: Pour the melted green candy melts over one bowl of cereal and the melted lime green candy melts over the other bowl. Gently stir both bowls until all cereal pieces are evenly coated.
  5. Combine with Dry Mixture: Transfer each coated cereal bowl into its corresponding Ziplock bag with the dry cake mix mixture. Seal each bag and shake vigorously until all pieces are evenly coated with the cinnamon vanilla mixture.
