Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry

  • 17.3 oz puff pastry sheets

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 16 oz cremini mushrooms, diced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pinch salt

Cheese

  • 12 oz sharp white cheddar cheese, grated

Oils & Fats

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Thaw the puff pastry sheets on a large cutting board for about 30 minutes to make them pliable and easier to work with.
  2. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a muffin pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Heat a large cooking pan over medium-high heat, add the olive oil, then add the diced yellow onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Cook Mushrooms: Add the diced cremini mushrooms to the pan and season with a pinch of salt. Continue sautéing for 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms have released their moisture and are nicely browned.
  5. Add Cheese: Remove the pan from heat and mix in the grated sharp white cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt slightly and incorporate with the mushroom mixture.
  6. Prepare Pastry Cups: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into 9 equal squares. Press each square gently into the muffin pan cups, shaping them into little pastry cups.
  7. Fill Pastry Cups: Spoon approximately 1 ½ tablespoons of the mushroom and cheese mixture into each puff pastry cup, filling them evenly.
  8. Bake: Place the muffin pan in the preheated oven and bake for 15-17 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Serve: Allow the puff bites to cool slightly before removing from the muffin pan and serving warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute cremini mushrooms with button mushrooms if preferred.
  • For a milder garlic flavor, reduce the amount of garlic cloves.
  • Butter can be used instead of olive oil for sautéing to add richness.
  • Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed before rolling for better handling.
  • Serve these bite-sized puff pastries warm for the best texture and flavor experience.
