Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust

  • 1 Pie Crust (homemade or store-bought)

Filling

  • 250 g Cottage Cheese (creaminess and rich flavor)
  • 50 g Grated Parmigiano (or another hard cheese)
  • 1 Egg (helps bind the filling)
  • 1/3 tsp Salt (adjust to taste)

Topping

  • 40 g Pearl Onions (34 onions, for sweetness)
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil (for brushing onions)
  • 1 dash Black Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) to prepare for baking the tart.
  2. Prepare Crust: Roll out your pie crust and press it firmly into a tart pan, ensuring an even base and sides.
  3. Blind Bake Crust: Bake the crust for 10 minutes until it just starts to set but not fully cooked, providing a stable base for the filling.
  4. Prepare Filling: In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg, then add cottage cheese, grated Parmigiano, and salt. Mix until thoroughly combined and smooth.
  5. Prepare Onions: Peel and slice the pearl onions. Brush them lightly with olive oil to enhance roasting and flavor.
  6. Assemble Tart: Pour the cheese mixture into the par-baked crust and spread evenly for uniform filling.
  7. Add Onion Topping: Layer the oiled pearl onions on top of the cheese filling with the oiled side facing upwards. Sprinkle with black pepper to taste.
  8. Bake Tart: Place the tart back into the oven and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the tart from the oven and allow it to cool for 10 minutes. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can use a store-bought pie crust to save time or make a homemade one for a fresher taste.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to preference for seasoning the filling and topping.
  • Pearl onions can be substituted with thinly sliced shallots or small sweet onions.
  • This tart can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature, making it a versatile dish for various occasions.
  • For a vegetarian option, ensure the Parmigiano cheese used is free of animal rennet.
