Cheese Filling
- 8 oz feta cheese, crumbled
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Phyllo Rolls
- 1 package (10 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
- 4 tbsp melted butter
- Olive oil spray
Chili Honey
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp chili flakes (adjust to taste)
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine crumbled feta, ricotta cheese, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are fully incorporated and form a creamy, flavorful filling.
- Prepare Phyllo Dough: Carefully unroll the phyllo dough onto a clean, dry surface. Keep the dough covered with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out and becoming brittle as you work.
- Assemble the Rolls: Take one sheet of phyllo dough and brush it evenly with melted butter. Place a second sheet on top and brush that with butter as well. Cut the layered phyllo into approximately 4-inch wide rectangles. Spoon a generous amount of cheese filling onto one end of each rectangle and roll tightly, folding in the ends to securely enclose the filling inside the phyllo.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the assembled rolls seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet to prevent them from unrolling during baking. Lightly spray the tops of the rolls with olive oil to help them crisp and brown beautifully in the oven.
- Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and crisp on the outside. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
- Make the Chili Honey: While the rolls bake, gently heat the honey and chili flakes together in a small saucepan over low heat. Let it simmer for a few minutes to allow the chili flavor to infuse into the honey. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Serve: Drizzle the warm chili honey over the hot feta rolls just before serving for a delicious sweet and spicy finish.
Notes
- Be sure to keep the phyllo dough covered with a damp cloth throughout the assembly process to prevent drying and tearing.
- Adjust the amount of chili flakes in the honey to suit your preferred spice level.
- You can prepare the chili honey ahead of time and store it in a sealed container.
- For an extra crispy texture, brush the rolls with additional melted butter before baking.
- Serve immediately after drizzling with chili honey for the best taste and texture.
