Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Topping

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) to prepare for baking the cobbler.
  2. Prepare Pan: Spread the melted unsalted butter evenly over the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking pan. This will create a rich buttery base for the cobbler.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the whole milk, vanilla extract, and sugar until the sugar is mostly dissolved. This will help to create a smooth batter.
  4. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon to the wet mixture. Whisk gently until just combined, ensuring there are no dry streaks but being careful not to over mix.
  5. Assemble Batter: Spoon the batter carefully over the melted butter in the baking pan. Take care not to mix the butter into the batter; let the batter rest atop the butter layer.
  6. Add Brown Sugar: Sprinkle the packed brown sugar evenly over the top of the batter.
  7. Pour Hot Water: Gently pour the hot water over the batter and brown sugar layer. This will help create a syrupy texture as it bakes.
  8. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the cobbler is set and golden on top.
  9. Add Topping: While the cobbler is baking, mix together 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. When the cobbler comes out of the oven, sprinkle this cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the top for a sweet and spicy finishing touch.

Notes

  • For best results, use freshly melted butter and hot water to enhance the flavor and texture.
  • This cobbler is best served warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can substitute whole milk with any milk alternative, but the texture may vary slightly.
  • Ensure not to over mix the batter to keep the cobbler light and fluffy.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
